Coach Shen currently holds his USSF National "C" License and NSCAA National Diploma.
Shen brings collegiate head coaching experience from both Bellevue Community College and Skagit Valley College. His women’s program at Bellevue was a perennial playoff contender. In addition, he worked to change the academic culture of Bellevue’s men’s program. His first year, he mentored five players on the all NWAACC academic team which tied for the best in the league. During his second year, he retained eight out of ten recruits to maintain their academic eligibility at the junior college level. He also helped many student-athletes play at the four-year and professional levels.
Shen’s first year at Skagit Valley College, he was voted NWAACC coach of the year for the northern conference after rebuilding a winning program there. He also worked to connect the college to the local community by hosting free soccer clinics.Shen assisted as men's soccer coach at both Whatcom Community College and Tacoma Community College. In the two years at Whatcom, he helped head coach Josh Turpen and the Orcas reach the knockout rounds and a third place finish.
In addition to coaching collegiate soccer, Shen is embedded in premier youth soccer development. He is passionate about helping players achieve their goals. He has had experience with local clubs such as FC Alliance, Snohomish United and Northwest United, and he currently works for Emerald City FC.
Before becoming a coach, Shen played collegiately and semi-professionally in both the outdoor and indoor settings. He played college soccer at both Concordia University and Spokane Community College. At Concordia, he helped his team to win the Cascade Conference and ranked as high as number fifteen in the nation. He was honored as an All-American Academic team during his tenure.
At Spokane CC, he helped the team earn a third place finish in the NWAACC tournament. During his semi-pro career, he made stops at the Yakima Reds (PDL) and the Las Vegas Strikers (NPSL) in the summer months. Currently, he plays GSSL first division with the Emerald City Supporters Fusion, and he also plays semi-professionally indoors with the Snohomish Skyhawks.
He and his wife, Emerisse, reside in Issaquah, Wash, with their daughter Isabelle Grace.
